News Update:

      Hi Everyone,

Seasons Greetings.

That there has been several challenges in view of achieving 6000MW cannot be overemphasized.While we await final signatures for kickoff of FONN and commencement of stakeholders forum one of which is scheduled to hold in January,there is still pressure towards concrete efforts to overcoming the causes of this delay.

Report yesterday showed clearly that pipeline vandalisation still remains ONE OF the greatest threats to achieving this goal.

Please share your thoughts on best practices strategies to OVERCOMING or PREVENTING this menace.

The challenge of having youths destroy this pipelines and ironically demand PR from the contractors awarded to repair these pipes in view of 'having made way for them to get jobs' is a huge challenge.

There are others,but your inputs could support the steer towards the right direction in designing an appropriate communication strategy as an update to the one earlier posted.

Pls share your view on preventing this menace and as always..thanks for being there and standing firm to supporting power generation.

may your hearts and minds be all lighted up,

Share the FONN link on your home pages...the best start still

Kind Regards,
Mina

News Update:

See below, the ABSTRACT for NEGIP: TURN YOUR LIGHTS ON....to support the need for sustainable power.

The development objectives of the Nigeria Electricity and Gas Improvement Project (NEGIP) are to increase availability and reliability of power supply along with financial sustainability of the Nigerian power sector. A secondary but important global objective would be the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through reduced gas flaring and enhanced share of cleaner generation. Some of the negative impacts of the project are: relocation or loss of shelter, loss of assets or access to assets, and/or loss of sources of income or means of livelihood.

Mitigation measures of the project are:

1) Resettlement will be avoided if possible and otherwise minimized by exploring all viable alternatives;

2) Every effort will be made to provide alternative land to affected people, such as farmers and herdsmen, whose livelihoods depend on land, and who will lose land or access to land due to the sub projects;

3) If community infrastructure or services, such as schools, roads, bridges, water supplies, etc., are lost through project activities, these will be replaced in-kind;

4) affected persons and communities will be meaningfully consulted, and have the opportunity to participate in planning and implementing the resettlement program. This includes workshops and information campaigns to inform the public. Other means of information include the organization of local public forums to discuss the proposed mitigation measures, their content and means of their implementation, including timing and requirement, and to inform stakeholders about their rights and the alternatives available to them;

5) alternative land will be provided to people who have to relocate physically because of the sub projects. These people must receive housing or residential plots that have all the advantages and productive potential of the previous site.

The project also has Development,Advocacy,Communication and Corporate objectives..drop us a line on the walls and you'd get feedback!
